DRIVER PERMIT
- Must be at least 15 years old to begin driver education
- Take and complete 30 hour online driver education course and receive certificate of completion
- Complete DMV DL44 application (to save time, complete online before visiting DMV)
- Visit DMV and take 2 proofs of residency, original birth certificate, social security number, and driver education certificate of completion
- Under age must be accompanied by parent/guardian
- Must be at least 15 ½ years old to be eligible to get a permit
- Take and pass knowledge test and receive California Provisional Permit
*All individuals must possess a driver permit to receive behind the wheel driving lessons
BEHIND THE WHEEL TRAINING
- Call Express Learning Driving School to schedule the first (2) hour behind the wheel lesson (total of 6 hours)
- Get permit signed by licensed instructor on the first lesson
- Minors must hold onto permit for 6 months before attempting DMV Drive Test (permit is valid for 1 year)
- Complete a (recommended) minimum of 50 hours of behind the wheel training (40 hours in the daylight + 10 hours at nighttime and 6 hours with a licensed instructor)
- Receive certificate of completion after completing 3 lessons (6 hours) with
licensed instructor
DRIVING TEST AT THE DMV
- Visit DMV and take behind the wheel certificate of completion, permit signed by instructor and parent, car insurance, and registration
- Individuals will be tested on their ability to drive safely and follow California’s driving regulations
- Successful driving test will result in a California licensed driver
